Dress a Child

Dress A Child is a ministry program of Lake Tanglewood Community Church we support during the Christmas season. This ministry was founded with the intent of providing food and gifts for families that may be experiencing hardships. We have a ministry coordinator who assembles a team of 2­3 volunteers to help with the success of the program. The coordinator contacts the school counselors from the community and receives a list of families they feel would benefit from the ministry. The volunteers then contact each family and get children's names, ages, clothing sizes and a few hobbies and favorite activities. These families are presented to the congregation and the church family “adopts” which one they would like to help. Most church families shop together with their friends and enjoy the fellowship the ministry offers. A church family may make a monetary donation if they are unable to shop. This may go towards the Bibles provided for each family, the shoe certificates designated for the children or to help purchase food items. Every family receives a food basket with the necessary items to prepare a Christmas meal and several days of extra food staples. Smoked turkeys are donated by Ambuc members in our community and each family receives a turkey. This ministry has grown each year with the support from the congregation and we have helped numerous families enjoy Christmas in a way they may not have had if some support wasn't available.
